My love for the North British Railway comes from the series of models built by P D Hancock known as Craigshire and a series of models and articles penned by Ian Futers on the Border Counties Railway. These articles published in the Railway Modeller during the mid 1970s captured my imagination and were the source of inspiration for many a hastily scribbled plan. Many years later in the early 1990s we were blessed with the opportunity to have a holiday in the Scottish/English Borders near Riccarton. We walked some of the track bed of the Border Counties Railway and explored Ricarton Junction Station site. Further excursions in the car ‘discovered’ the delights of Bellingham, Tarset, Thorneyburn, Saughtree and Deadwater. Indeed we loved the area - the main problem being the distance required to travel to visit it!
